How to Write an Essay in the TOEFL
Test? (Explanation with Examples)
The writing section in TOEFL is the last part of the
TOEFL Test and has two parts in both the formats
that is the internet based format and the paper
based format. In the internet based format or the
TOEFL IBT, you are assigned two types of tasks which
must be completed in 50 minutes. The two types of
writing tasks are:
In the integrated task, there are three questions
which are a short reading passage, a short listening
and writing a short essay of about 150-250. All the
three questions are based on the same topic. You
have 20 minutes of the total 50 assigned for the
compete TOEFL writing Test.
In the independent you will be asked to write an
essay and the time provided to you for it is 30
minutes. You need to write essays that are more than
300 words spread out in 4-5 paragraphs.
How To Write An Essay:
When writing the TOEFL essay, make sure that the
question is well understood and you are able to
visualize certain aspects of the topic in your mind.
Once you can picture the topic you can be assured
that you have understood the topic. For example
consider the sample question below. As soon as you
have read it you should be able to visualize
children eating fast food, some ailments being
experienced and the role of parents and elders in
whole topic. This way you can form opinions, ideas
and points to write the essay.
Essay Question: Today children around the world like
